What is Study Hall?

Often we have time in the day to get a head start on homework during the last half hour of school. Math usually takes more than an hour, so sometimes we start early (before lunch) or finish after we complete our planners.

When do children leave the class for special services?

Resource Room-- reading support is from 11:20 to 11:50, math support is from 1:00 to 1:30
English Language Development-- 2:30-3:05
Speech is individually scheduled.
RTI  "Response to Intervention" reading services have not started yet, but will be 8:35-8:55.

Hello Parents and Students,

After two days of class, I can already tell this is going to be a great year.

We have started working in our science books, and I will have on-line access codes and user names for the children tomorrow. They will be able to complete or review assignments at home or in Tech class.

We took a "Beginning of the Year" math assessment today, so I can see where we need to start with math instruction. We also started our first Read-Aloud novel, "When you Reach Me."  It's a challenging story, and just right for this group of bright students.

Tonight's homework was to read 30 minutes and write a paragraph about school rules--why we have them, and which one the writer thinks is particularly important. I mentioned that I think being kind and doing your best work are the important ones for me.

I'm off on a bike ride now!

Hello Fifth Grade Students and Parents!

I look forward to welcoming you to our classroom at Sexton Mountain. I have been busy this summer traveling with my husband, Roger Golliver, to Ireland and Michigan. I am also preparing for a "mini triathlon" in September and reading LOADS of books. The photo was taken of me at Trinity College's Library in Dublin--Imagine all those books and how old they are!

I hope to use this blog to keep families updated on our class activities during the 2013-2014 school year. Enjoy those last few days of summer, and I'll see you at the Open House on August 29 or the first day of school, Sept. 3rd.

Sincerely
Mrs. Stratton
